Dentrix
PerioMaxer works with the installed Dentrix desktop product, not Dentrix Ascend; see Versions below for which releases have been checked. Dentrix has no perio-chart API, so PerioMaxer Desktop types values into the open perio chart the way a person would.
Setup
- Install and activate PerioMaxer Desktop on the operatory computer. See the setup guide.
- Choose Dentrix as your practice software.
- If setup asks for it, record a short macro: a one-time capture of how your Dentrix moves between chart cells. It records navigation only, never patient data, and takes about five minutes. Use a test patient, not a real one.
- Calibrate: open a sample patient’s perio chart and start calibration from the PerioMaxer window. In about two minutes it detects your practice’s charting order on its own. This runs once per computer.
Charting
- Open the patient’s perio chart in Dentrix.
- Scan the code on the computer with the PerioMaxer app, or use the computer’s microphone.
- Speak. Values appear in Dentrix as the clinician talks.
Safety rails
- PerioMaxer types only while Dentrix is the front window. Click anywhere else and it pauses at once.
- A visible indicator shows while values are being typed. Press Esc at any time to stop.
- Every value is verified on screen after it is typed. A value that cannot be verified is refused, never guessed.
Versions
Verified means the write path was exercised on a real install of that version, every value typed, read back on screen, and rolled back.

Expected to work from 23.9 (October 2023), an estimate from the vendor’s own release notes: 23.9 was the last release note to change the perio chart window itself (the exam date moved into its title bar). Every later note through 26.20 adds features around the chart, not to its layout. Versions back to G7.5 (2021) will likely work but have not been tested: The Data Entry panel, its number pad and the navigation scripts PerioMaxer drives are described the same way back to G6, and G7.5 is the last change inside the perio panel before 23.9.
On an older version, the free first week is the test: chart a sample patient and watch the values land.
Vendors ship a new version most months. When one changes the perio chart, allow about a week for us to confirm it; PerioMaxer verifies every value on screen, so an unrecognised layout is refused rather than typed blind.
If Dentrix updates or your charting order changes
If a Dentrix update changes how the chart takes input, record the macro again from the PerioMaxer window. About five minutes, same as the first time. If only the charting order changed, run calibration again, or tap Recalibrate in the phone app’s settings while connected.
