Setup guide

Setup has three parts: create the practice account, install the desktop app on each operatory computer, and put the free app on each phone. Most offices finish in under an hour.

1. Create the practice account

  1. Register at periomaxer.com and pick a plan by computer count: Solo (1 computer), Small (4), Medium (9), or Max (20). One flat price per plan. Phones and tablets are unlimited on every plan.
  2. Every office plan starts with a 1-week free trial to confirm the integration works with your practice software. A card is required at signup; cancel before the week is up and you pay nothing. Annual billing saves 17%.

2. Decide what each computer is called

There is no key to make, send or type. Every computer signs in with your practice account and names itself at the chair.

  1. Sign in to your portal and open Computers to see how many computers your plan covers.
  2. Tell whoever installs the desktop app which account to sign in with and what to call each chair, for example “Op 3”.

3. Install PerioMaxer Desktop

Install on each operatory computer: the Windows computer that runs your practice software (Open Dental or Dentrix).

  1. Download the installer from Downloads.
  2. Run it. The installer sets the Windows Firewall rule the phone connection needs and starts PerioMaxer automatically at sign-in, so a reboot never leaves the office without it.
  3. When PerioMaxer opens, sign in with your practice account and type what the chair is called. The computer then appears on Computers under that name.
  4. Calibrate: open a sample patient’s perio chart in your practice software and start calibration from the PerioMaxer window. It takes about two minutes and detects your practice’s charting order on its own. See the Open Dental or Dentrix page for what happens during this step.

4. Put the app on the phones

  1. Everyone who charts downloads the free PerioMaxer app: iPhone from the App Store, Android from Google Play.
  2. In the app, tap My office already has PerioMaxer and scan the code shown on the office computer.

That is the whole phone setup. No in-app payment, no per-phone activation, no setup links. The phone is also optional: the desktop charts from the computer’s own microphone, or any microphone plugged into it.

Network requirement

The phone must be on the same Wi-Fi as the office computer. Charting runs over your own office network, so a phone on a guest Wi-Fi or a separate VLAN cannot reach the operatory computer. Put phones and computers on one network.

If your phones and computers sit on separate networks, say a staff Wi-Fi apart from the computer network, or more than one network across the office, charting can go through the internet instead. Open a support request from your portal, or email support@periomaxer.com, and we will work through setting that up with you.
